Honors and awards: Illinois Arts Council Award for fiction in a small press magazine, 1975 and 1977; Kansas Quarterly/Kansas Arts Council, fiction award.

Children: With Judy Locker: Karen Moulding and Ian Moulding (deceased). With my current wife: Judy Malek: Sarah Moulding. Eve Ashby (twins) and Margaret Alfayoumi. Step children: Jennifer Ridenour, Patrick Costello and Katy Remington.

Grandchildren: Ten.

Outstanding Cornell memory: Spring, freshman year, my first publication ever anywhere had just come out in The Widow, and today on this fragrant May morning, I wandered the campus, across the quad, on past the library to the Strait, hawking magazines to unwilling, contemptuous students, faculty members, thrilled to have joined the company of Cheever, Styron, Roth---the real thing.

How has your life differed from what you expected? Became a teacher, only secondarily a writer. Married to Judy the day after graduation, I couldn’t imagine the music of the Kingston Trio would be supplanted by the Beetles, that the martini would remain the only acceptable intoxicant, that within one year I would be a father.
