Fifty Years Of Bliss

By Judy Rensin Mandell

When we were young girls at Cornell,
We worked ‘til our eyes ached like hell,
We’d all take a break,
Face time at The Straight,
Then we’d run back to the dorm, pell mell.

Our curfew was at ten o’clock,
A minute late doors would be locked,
Our kids think it unfair,
But we didn’t care,
In those days we’d not the boat rock.

Those rules we now deplore,
But Cornell men would come to our door,
They all came a knocking,
It really is shocking,
One hand and one foot on the floor.

Four guys to one girl was so great,
It really was not hard to date,
The guys were prize winning,
They set our hearts spinning,
In fact one would become my life mate.

So I met this young man at Cornell,
The girls in the dorm said he’s swell,
Saw him at the Straight,
I thought we might date,
And he ran with that -- pell mell.

I believe he thought I was hot,
He really liked me a lot,
We romanced, had such fun,
I would be the one,
Even though our finances were squat.

We’ve had fifty years of great bliss,
Now it’s just us and dogs Swiss,
We’re gathered today,
To make hay while we may,
And I may finally give him a KISS!
